Texas Flu Shot Guidelines
HHSC Expands Flu Shot Guidelines in TX Medicaid/CHIP
Read the HHSC Order
The Texas Health & Human Services Commission has expanded the allowable age range for coverage of the influenza vaccine in the Texas Medicaid and CHIP health programs. Health plans may now allow network pharmacies to bill for pharmacist-administered flu vaccines given to all patients age 7 and older. Previously, flu shots could be administered to patients under age 14 only with a prescription or under protocol established with a licensed Texas physician. Pharmacies should check with individual MCOs to see if those plans are allowing billing for the expanded coverage, as the plans are not required to do so by the HHSC order.
